Rolling Out the UniVersus Judge Program

Are you the rules guru in your local playgroup? Do you thrive on fair play and keeping matches running smoothly? Then it's time to take your first step into the UniVersus Judge Program with the Level 1 Exam!

What Is the UniVersus Judge Program?

Whether you're looking to judge local events or have aspirations of being a judge at the World Championships, this is where your journey begins.

Level 1 certification demonstrates that you understand the basic rules of gameplay, tournament procedure, and how to resolve common in-game issues. But this is only the beginning—UVS Games will be expanding the program with multiple levels, each offering new learning opportunities, added responsibilities, and maybe even some judge-exclusive swag.

There are three Judge levels that will roll out over time:

Level 1: Foundation

• Online multiple-choice exam

• Focused on core gameplay rules and basic tournament operations

• Passing automatically awards Level 1 Judge status

Level 2: Backup (Coming 2025)

• Online essay exam

• Tests intermediate rules knowledge, card interactions, and judgment in complex scenarios

• More involved expectations for supporting tournament structure

Level 3: Asset (Coming 2026)

• Requires in-person assessment at select events

• Includes a written exam + practical judging evaluation

• For those looking to judge at the highest levels of competitive play—including the World Championship

How To Take the Level 1 Exam

Getting started is easy:

• Log into your UGN account

• Click your name/profile icon

• Select Judge Program

• Begin the Level 1 exam

Exam Details

• 10 questions

• 30-minute time limit

• 80% or higher required to pass

• If you don’t pass, you’ll need to wait 14 days before retaking the exam

Join the Judge Discord Community

We’ve also launched a public UniVersus Judge Discord server—open to everyone, with exclusive role-based access for certified judges.

• Chat channels unlock based on your current Judge Level

• Tournament Organizers (TOs) will post staffing needs for events—perfect for those looking to get involved!

• Once you pass an exam, our OP team will manually assign your corresponding Discord role within a reasonable time frame, however, once you pass an exam, you will automatically be a Judge for that respective level.
