Enhancing UniVersus Regional Prizing

UVS Games OP Team

Attention, UniVersus!

Reporting in from Organized Play, this is Levi here to hit you with breaking news regarding UniVersus Major Regionals!

At ease, fighters. This isn’t anything as cutthroat as a B&E update, nor is it something as frivolous as more news of my travels. Today, I’m here to sit down and chit chat about something that’s been on all our competitive and casual players’ minds alike this year: Prizing.

For those of you that attended any National event, as well as the Worlds Festival from our previous OP cycle, you’re more than a little familiar with some of the Organized Play prizing revamps that Josh and I have set out to implement as the new OP team. Those events were to be just a taste of the fruits of our labors we promised you’d begin to see going into 2025’s OP cycle.

As we encroach upon the third major regional of this year in Albuquerque, it’s suffice to say that a number of our playerbase have been let down by the amount of prizing in these events so far. We set a very large precedent for these regionals, and we’ve failed to live up to the expectations of our playerbase. For that, we apologize.

But I’m not here just to spew platitudes at you. I’m here to show you that at UVS Games we’re flexible and prepared to take the steps needed to provide the competitive CCG experience that you all deserve. Between experiencing the tests at both US Nationals and Worlds, as well as the Denver and Chelmsford regionals first hand, I’ve had a lot of conversations with players, judges, and organizers alike. With all that data in tow, we think we’ve come up with a standardized economy for prize wall items/tickets that you’re going to think is sensational. Let’s dive in.

Main Event Prizing:

Top Cut Items/Boosters:
[No Changes]

  • 1st - Champion/Finalist/Top 4/Top 8/Top 16/Top 32 Promo + Champion Playmat + 6 Booster Boxes of the current set

  • 2nd - Finalist/Top 4/Top 8/Top 16/Top 32 Promo + Top 16 Playmat + 4 Booster Boxes of the current set

  • Top 4 - Top 4/Top 8/Top 16/Top 32 Promo + Top 16 Playmat + 3 Booster Boxes of the current set

  • Top 8 - Top 8/Top 16/Top 32 Promos + Top 16 Playmat + 2 Booster Boxes of the current set

  • Top 16 - Top 16/Top 32 Promos + Top 16 Playmat + 1 Booster Box of the current set

  • Top 32 - Top 32 Promo

Prize Wall Items:

[Promo selections are player’s choice, maximum 4 copies]

  • Participation - 6 Tickets

  • 1st - 1 Uncut Sheet + 16 Promos + 1 Playmat + 4 Double Sized Cards

  • 2nd - 16 Promos + 1 Playmat + 4 Double Sized Cards

  • Top 4 - 12 Promos + 1 Playmat + 3 Double Sized Cards

  • Top 8 - 8 Promos + 1 Prize Wall Playmat + 2 Double Sized Cards

  • Top 16 - 4 Promos + 1 Double Sized Card

  • Top 32 - 2 Promos

  • Top 64 - 1 Promo

As you can see, players who truly go all the way and fight their whole weekend deep in the trenches of Top Cuts won’t have to worry about missing out on any prize wall items now. Finalists will walk away with the ability to choose full playsets of the four new prize wall promo cards in each promo rotation (or older event promos, while supplies last). The remaining members of top cuts will walk away with heaps of promos the better they perform, and even players who don’t advance to day 2 will get a nice headstart on their side event grind when they do show up the next day.

And don’t worry, day 2 fighters. The maximum amount of a single current event promo redeemable by a top cut’s players will be set aside until the completion of the main event, so our top competitors don’t have to fret about any new promos running out before they’re done battling it out in the bracket.

But what about the rest of the field? We’ve got you covered as well. In major regionals going forward, you can expect standardized side events to follow this structure:
[This is a recommended structure for standardized side events provided by UVS Games, TOs will still be at their leisure to run side events that fall outside the norm with unique prizing.]

Side Event Payout:

Participation: 3 tickets

Per Round Win: 2 Tickets

Standardized 3-round side events will now grant three tickets as well as pay out an additional two tickets for each of the three rounds won. This means that a single 3-0’d side event will now net you a full playset of a promo, with a ticket to spare even. Keep fighting in every side event until the very end and rack up the spoils!

Side events that don’t involve wins against other players, such as Boss Battles or Cardslinging, will have a flat payout of four tickets. That makes these events potentially less valuable than an event you can win out in, but will be a great way to rack up fast, guaranteed tickets!

Prize Wall Values:

[UVS Games will only enforce values for items we provide. Ticket pricing for unique items TOs implement into their prize walls are at the TO’s discretion.]

  • Speed/Damage Dice: 1 Ticket

  • Symbol/Event Pin: 1 Ticket

  • Current/Old Event Promo: 2 Tickets

  • Double Sized Card: 2 Tickets

  • Playmat: 6 Tickets

  • Uncut Sheet: 30 Tickets

With all that juice, you might be thinking that prize wall items are about to get a lot more expensive. Not at all. No shameless haggling here, in fact, quite the opposite. The only changes here will be playmats increasing from four tickets to six, and pins coming down to one ticket from two. With the new buffs to ticket payouts, we want players to be racking up promos and chasing uncut sheets realistically, but snagging two playmats off 3-0’ing a single side event is a little too good of a deal. And with promos being the premiere two ticket option now, bringing pins down to one is a great way to top off those odd number ticket hauls and make collecting a set on top of promos a lot easier!

And that’s all the changes! This revamp will be implemented in UniVersus Regionals going forward, starting with Albuquerque next month! We hope you look forward to this new system and what it brings to this cycle of Organized Play, and of course, racking up a TON of new Attack on Titan and Critical Role promos at the event! Speaking of Albuquerque’s Regional though, there’s one more thing.

New Symbol Playmat/Pins:

That’s right, the symbol merch game is back on! Picking up where Fire, Life, and Order left off, you’ll be able to snag playmats and pins of Earth, Evil, and Good at UniVersus Regionals going forward! We’re excited to get back to seeing players continue to collect them all, and collecting them ourselves! I can’t wait to jam some games with folks on my very own Evil playmat (we’re so back).

That’s all the time I’ve got for now. Thank you as always for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We look forward to continuing to improve the competitive UniVersus experience and seeing you in the coming regionals! 2025’s OP cycle is just barely heating up, and there’s so much more competition and rewards in store for you all this year.
