Creative Combos! Favorite Battle For Humanity Interactions

Barrett Bryant, UVS Games Game Design Playtester

Hey everyone! Today I'll be talking about exciting card interactions that are now available in UniVersus with the most recent set. Normally, the team will make a bunch of decks talking about some of our favorite characters with the new cards, but instead today we wanted to share some of our favorite interactions across multiple characters that open the endless deck building potential with attune and the latest set.

Sasha Blouse or Jean Kirstein + Storm of Arrows

CR-VM | 010 Storm Of Arrows

First on the list is a fan favorite of mine, utilizing a very strong Echo attack from the Critical Role Challenger Decks: Storm of Arrows. This is already a strong attack that can be a build around with decks, and we even got a new Ranged/Weapon with ‘Line Up the Shot’ to add some Throw damage to the package. The reason this attack package suits Sasha and Jean so well, is because when Storm of Arrows clears a card to play its Echo, we get to activate the responses on our character and get the extra bonus. Under the air symbol, Jean gets to do this game plan while also building lots of momentum to use for cards like Vertical Maneuvering Equipment and Falling Debris. Meanwhile, Sasha under the life symbol gets to pick up impactful 1 difficulty cards such as Gold Tips Imperial and Box Full of Babies.

Ymir + Hero’s Inspiration

Everyone is already on top of playing Ymir on the life symbol and sneaking into 9 foundations with New Training Method. Even building in Wild Wild Pussycats down with your Form on the 1st turn of the game going second to get an extra foundation in your hand and in your stage is very cool. But I wanna talk about playing Command Pigeon Flock to help you build closer to 9 foundations so you can transform and also building in Hero’s Inspiration while you do it! Who doesn’t like building it in, immediately drawing a card by adding it back to the card pool, and then after the attack resolves, building it back down for later! If it also gets you to 9 or more foundations, you get to transform while you’re at it.

Armin Arlert + Hand of Confession

UVS05 Clash Decks | 031 Hand Of Confession

This interaction is a deck builder’s paradise because it works with any attack in the game that you want to essentially ‘loop’ on your opponent. I’m having the most fun trying to play Farewell Between Friends as many times as possible on my opponent, but if you want to play your favorite Life Echo attack on your opponent 4 times in a turn, you can do that as well!

Annie Leonhart + Strategic Meeting and Rapid Speed Slash

Momentum generation is the name of the game for Annie, and it works a lot better on chaos when you start your turn with one by using the Form on Strategic Meeting and then play as many Rapid Speed Slashes as you can, and on every one, you can get an extra momentum and then spend a momentum to build a bonus foundation. Plenty of other momentum generators on the symbol are also a must, but I also like to play a copy or 2 of Big Freakin’ Explosion to be a prime candidate to give Throw if you haven’t transformed yet.

Connie Springer + Focused Attack and Hawks’ Feathers

UVS03 Heroes Clash | 044 Focused Attack

Just because Connie only gets to draw cards on printed 3 difficulty attacks or lower, doesn’t mean we can’t play higher difficulty cards. Especially when cards like Focused Attack are easy ways to close out games. And after drawing all those cards when your 3 difficulty attacks deal damage, hopefully we draw some Hawks’ Feathers to add to our card pool to give our Focused Attack more speed and then still contribute to the mid attack count for its combo ability.

Jester Lavorre + Vertical Maneuvering Equipment

This asset might just be the extra defensive piece that Jester needed to stay alive against the aggressive decks for the format. Since it has the infinity symbol, you can put this asset in any Jester deck and then pick your favorite block tricks to use against your opponent to deter them from attacking more.

Shishiwakamaru + Ascend to Battle

AOT01-023-AscendtoBattle-UR

Who else to play to get your Ascend to Battles played late in your attack chains without failing them but Shishiwakamaru! This character already got quite a bit of love this set because of extra help generating momentum, but now he has some real threats with Swarmed by Titans, Falling Debris, and then using his form to guarantee an Ascend to Battle with a ton of damage on it!

Elder Toguro + Shrewd Observations

This crazy stat controlling 7-hander just got a lot more tricky with cards like Shrewd Observations in his kit in any deck he wants. Since it responds on the foundation being sacrificed, when you use Elder Toguro’s enhance on your opponent’s turn, you can sneak in some more minus speed after the stat swap goes through, for your opponent’s attack to be even easier to block! Pair this with even more speed hate cards, you’ll surely frustrate some opponents by getting an attack down to zero speed, swapping it, then having it deal 0 damage.

Strategic Maneuver + Gran Torino Agency

Strategic Maneuver can build in and 2 difficulty or lower asset from your discard pile, but I’m enjoying building in Gran Torino Agency in the middle of a turn, and then being able to trigger its response as soon as possible for the bonus card and not having to worry about its downside of giving your opponent’s attacks +1 speed in any of my air symbol clear decks. A notable shoutout to Training Weights, because if your deck needs some extra damage pump, as long as your character has the air symbol, you can sneak a Training Weights mid turn to help.

Defiant Stance + Whirling Slash

This card combo speaks for itself already in any air characters such as Mikasa that already has great synergy with Defiant Stance, but it isn’t just limited to playing it on the air symbol. I actually prefer this on life or good to help build Defiant Stances with New Training Methods, but it just has to on a character that has Air. Some of my favorites are: Jin, Nejire Hado, Mothra, Toru Hagakure .II, and Bubble Girl.

This was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to crazy card interactions with new tools from Attack on Titan: Battle for Humanity and the endless possibilities with attune cards! I can’t wait to see what people bring to their Local Qualifiers, Championships, and Major Regionals!
